Default Timeline based on hourly data

I need to create a time line for hourly data, tide vs location along a
coastline. The range is less than 24 hours of data. Selecting time
scale as a chart option will setup a time line and arrange event by
order of occurance but it seems to ignore time. Is it possible to do
this on an hourly basis?

Make sure you're using an XY chart.
