Default how to draw Gaussian distribution graph

After drawing a histogram through data analysis, I want to draw a Gaussian
distribution graph (standard or reverse bell-shape graph) relevant to my
frequency data. Is there any built-in function to carry out this drawing?

Thumbs up Answer: how to draw Gaussian distribution graph

Yes, Microsoft Excel has a built-in function to draw a Gaussian distribution graph. Here are the steps to follow:
  1. First, you need to calculate the mean and standard deviation of your data set. You can use the
    Formula:
    AVERAGE
    and
    Formula:
    STDEV
    functions to do this.
  2. Next, create a new column next to your frequency data and label it "X". In the first cell under "X", enter the minimum value of your data set. In the cell below that, enter the next value in your data set, and so on, until you reach the maximum value.
  3. In the next column, label it "Y", enter the formula for the Gaussian distribution. The formula is:
    Formula:
    =NORMDIST(X,mean,stdev,FALSE
. Replace "X" with the cell reference for the corresponding value in the "X" column, and replace "mean" and "stdev" with the cell references for the mean and standard deviation you calculated in step 1.
  4. Copy the formula down the entire "Y" column to calculate the Gaussian distribution for each value in the "X" column.
  5. Highlight both the "X" and "Y" columns, and then click on the "Insert" tab in the ribbon.
  6. Click on the "Scatter" chart type, and then choose the "Smooth Line with Markers" option.
  7. Your Gaussian distribution graph should now be displayed on the worksheet.

That's it! You now have a Gaussian distribution graph that is relevant to your frequency data.

NORMDIST will give you a Gaussian distribution, which you can then add to
your chart.

Khoshravan -

Excel has features for creating the histogram and for plotting the curve
using data from the NORMDIST worksheet function. But Excel does not have an
automatic feature for combining the histogram (Column chart type) and normal
curve (XY Scatter chart type). It can be difficult to line up the horizontal
axes (Column category and XY numerical) and to scale the vertical axes.

See the Histogram page at www.treeplan.com for an example that uses the two
chart types.

See http://www.mikemiddleton.com/Histogr...ormalCurve.xls for an example
that uses proper scaling.
