I have been scouring the net looking for information on how to change the way
a category x-axis is aligned relative to a data point. I would like to have the category tick mark in line with the data point. Excell seems to default to centering the category under the data point. Below is an example of what I'm trying to do: x - data point *- Category tick mark/line Excel default: **************** x Category A **************** x Category B **************** Requested format: x ****************** Category A x ****************** Category B ******************** Thanks for you help. |

Hi,
Does the 'Value (Y) axis crosses between categories' give you the look you are after. Double click the category axis and check the Scale tab of the format dialog. First thanks for your suggestion but unfortunately it did not quite work.
Originally I didn't think this was a factor but now it seems that it may be based on what happened with your suggestion. This is a secondary x-axis with sub categories and the primary x-axis is a timescale. Selecting that adds a tickmark for the sub categories and is in line with the data point but not change the larger "group" tickmarks. There is an offset between the data point and larger category tickmarks. Also this offset is not the same for each sub-category which I tried to illustrate below. It seems that the "group" category tickmarks are fixed and consist of equal divisions of the timescale being spanned. These equal divisions are what I'm trying to change, so that the chart would indicate that sub-category A and Group 1 start at the same time on the primary x-axis time scale. Instead it indicates that they start at different times. Selecting 'Value (Y) axis crosses between categories' yields: *************************** x *** sub-Category A ****************** Group 1 x *** sub-Category B **************************** Thanks, Brian "Andy Pope" wrote: Hi, Does the 'Value (Y) axis crosses between categories' give you the look you are after.
