Default Mix Titles with Cell Links and Text

I would like to make a chart title have a mix of letters and a cell reference
formula similar to what I do in other cells. For example:

="text" & (left(A1,4))

I would hope this is possible but it keeps giving me an error. I have used
just the ="text" & A1 and it works but when I add the formula, it says no.

Any ideas?

What about calculating the forumla in a different cell, and then
referencing that cell in the title?

That's always an option but my spreadsheet already has 7 sheets and uses all
columns in the main sheet where the charts are located. I was just trying to
combine my efforts for simplicity sake.

It's not an option, it's the only way.
