The behaviour you decribe is consistent with the accessed file having been
(inadvertently?) saved in hidden mode.

You can confirm and resolve this by selecting the Unhide option on the
Window menu.

If this is successful, simply save the file (unhidden!) and normal
operations will be restored.

back.
