which version of excel. in 2003, turn off the recent file list by
unchecking the option under tools/options/general tab

I transfered files from Scottrade to Excel to forward to someone ... I
removed the files from My Documents to the Recycle Bin, but the file names
remain in Excel "Recent Documents" ... how do I remove them? ... there is
nothing left in the files.
