Default Excel extension

The xlsm extension is an Excel 2007+ file. The "m" means the file has code.
The "m" would be an "x" if it didn't have code. The xlsm file will have to
be opened in Excel 2007+, then saved as an ".xls" file, to be able to be
opened by Excel 2002. HTH Otto

I am not a programmer, not a clue! I am a user of Excel (and not very
good
at that!). I have Office XP version 2002 on my old PC. I create a
spreadsheet that is distributed to over 200 Masonic Brothers from Napa in
the
North Bay down to Monterey. This spreadsheet compiles data from over 20
Masonic Lodges in the Bay Area regarding the dates of the meetings and
events
of the individual lodges. This enables members of one lodge to know what
is
going on in an other lodge and go visit.

The problem is, that all of a sudden, my spreadsheet can't be opened by
some
of the recipients. My .xls extension got changed to .xlsm somehow. I
need
to have just .xls so everyone who gets my emails can open the spreadsheet.
I
do not know how to change back.

I will send you a copy of the spreadsheet as an attachment if you request
it. I know that a lot of people will not open attachments they are not
expecting.

Thank you,
