Default Purchasing Excel for a PC to share files with Mac version 2008?

vivreexcel -

Mac Excel 2008 can read and write XLS and XLSX files, so either Excel 2003
or Excel 2007 is fine.

Mac Excel 2008 does not support VBA, so XLA and XLSM are off limits.

For a more Mac-centric set of opinions, post the same message on the very
active microsoft.public.mac.office.excel newsgroup.

Which version for a PC 2003 or 2007 would be best for sharing files between
that and a Mac using Excel 2008?
