I don't believe "ISDATE" is a true function (unless this is an update in xl
2007?).
Based on what your goal is, I would recommend:

=DATEDIF(Table1[[#This Row],[DOB]],IF(ISNUMBER(Table1[[#This Row],
[DEATH]]),Table1[[#This Row],[DEATH]],TODAY()),"y")
