If you want the lines to break at a certain point use ALT + ENTER to insert an
in-cell carriage return.
This is the first line<ALT + ENTER
This is the second line<ENTER
Set for wrap text as Phil points out.

Go to Format Cells Alignment Tab and under Text Control, check the "Wrap
Text" box.

I am using Microsoft office 2003 Exel, and I wish to type text on several
lines within a cell in order to limit the width of the cell. Is there any
other way of doing this than merging cells?
