This is probably not the answer you're looking for but it's a workaround . .
.. I've sometimes had to use a third party screen capturing software like
Hypersnap or SnagIt to first capture an image of the charts. Then, after
saving that image as a .gif file, I'll PDF the .gif image. I too can't
explain the strange PDF behavior.
