Default Dates in a pivot table

Hi,

I have created a pretty basic pivot table which pulls information from a
simple (but large) table.

The table is a list of queries which have come into my department, and it
contains columns for things like €śissue category€ť, €śdate of issue€ť etc.

In my pivot table I want to be able to show the amount of queries which we
have received for each category over a given period. I can pull this
information however when I add the €śDate of Issue€ť field to the report filter
area it looks like the pivot table doesnt recognize that the data in this
field is actually a date. So when I try to filter it for a given time period
(a quarter for example) I cannot use the date filters which appear in the
table, I must select each individual date in the list as if it were a text
value?

I have formatted the entire €śDate of Issue€ť column in the table to make sure
excel recognizes them all as dates and I can use the date filters in the
table but the pivot table report filter still doesnt recognize them as dates.

Is this a problem anyone else has run into? If so Id be grateful for any
tips on how to circumvent it.

Thanks in advance,
Mick.
