Default Excel printer

When printing from excel when you choose a printer other than default and go
back into another spreadsheet. It shows the last printer used instead of the
default (this is the action we want from it). It works the same in Word, the
issue is being a hospital with the HIPAA laws we have 5 minute screensaver
timeout. After the screensaver kicks in and you log back on the printer is
back to default in Excel even though you didn't close Excel or the current
document. However in Word it keeps the last used printer. Any hints on how
to fix excel so it will maintain the last printer used until you exit the
program?
