But you can scrub the outer parentheses.

=(sum(a1:a5)*.585)+(sum(a11:a20)*.55) can be simplified to
=sum(a1:a5)*.585+sum(a11:a20)*.55

And if the text of the original question was correct, change the A5
reference to A10.

All I get is #VALUE and the help prompts do not help.
