WHEN I PUT THE INFO AS I WAS TOLD IN D19 &
PUSHED THE ENTER KEY NOTHING HAPPENED...
ALL THE INFO STAYED IN D19

In other words after you typed the formula and hit the enter key this what
you see in cell D19:

=SUM(D11:D19)

If, as you say, there is no data entered in the range D11:D19 then the
formula should return a result of 0. If you don't see 0 and instead you see
the formula itself try this:

Select cell D19
Goto the menu FormatCellsNumber tabselect GeneralOK
With cell D19 still selected press function key F2 then hit enter.
