Is sheet protection enabled and "select locked cells" disabled?

definitely not useless ... but yes, in Excel XP you should be able to select
non adjacent cells using the control button -
process is
click on the first cell with the mouse
hold down control key
click on the next cell with mouse
keep holding down control key
click on other desired cells

what happens when you follow these steps?
