Default In two workbooks, how do I create a formula that will look at a o.

While working in two workbooks, I would like to create a formula in the first
workbook that looks at a particular column, (example column AE), and not its
contents. As it is now, I created a formula to look into cell AE1, but when
deleting column AB, column AE becomes column AD, which is not what I want.

Help please.
