Default workbook link failures

Hi,

Did you recently install a new version of Excel (2007)? Usually this
problem has to do with file associations, a Windows problem.
The second issue, again are you using 2007? If so look at the title bar and
see if the files that don't support the links are still xlsx files.

My problem is two pronged; both may be connected as they happened at the same
time.

The first is that all of the Excel shortcuts on my desktop are no longer
operable. This problem only relates to Excel. All other shortcuts are
operable. The Excel shortcuts will open only the Excel header toolbars but
not the workbook. I get the error message:-

"Windows cannot find (the particular workbook). Make sure you typed the
name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the start
button, and then click Search."

If I then click Open on the toolbar I can access the workbook. The same
applies if I access Excel through the Start button and click on a recently
opened Excel workbook. I created new shortcuts to see if that fixed the
problem; it did not.

The second problem I have is that on some Excel workbooks, I now cannot
create links to other workbooks. Creating links within the various
worksheets of a workbook is fine; it is only a problem when trying to link
different workbooks. I cannot find any difference between those workbooks
that support links and those that (now) dont. As this is something I need
to do constantly, I need to find a solution. The only thing that I can think
of that may have caused this problem is that I changed the location (and name
sometimes) of several files. That caused some links to hang but I
re-assigned addresses to those that I could and broke those that I couldnt.
