Default Custom Views Error Message

I very rarely use custom views. But in the few times I have used them, I have
seen that warning message.

I could never find what the heck the settings were that could not be applied.

Personally, I like to use macros to show my "custom views". I remember a
workbook that had one worksheet that had lots and lots of columns and a lot of
rows.

I recorded macros that would show all the data and separate macros that would
hide columns and filter the rows. Each macro was named after the person/group
that wanted that "view".

I'm not sure if that's an option for you, but it worked fine for me.

Does anyone use Custom Views? If so have you ever had this problem?

Sometimes when I have created a custom view and then go to view it I get a
message 'Some view settings could not be applied'. This happens sometimes and
not at other times when I do a simple filter and hide columns even though I
am doing the same thing. I am using Office 2003 and Windows XP
