How about a pivot table? Takes only a couple of seconds to set it up, and
you'd find that the results very closely fit what you're trying to achieve

Some easy steps to lead you in (in xl2003)

Your col headers in A1:B1 (in Sheet2) a No., Type
Select any cell within the table, click Data Pivot Table ..
Click Next Next

In step 3 of the wiz., click Layout, then:
Drag n drop No. in ROW area
Drag n drop Type in COLUMN area
Drag n drop Type in DATA area (it'll appear as Count of Type)
Click OK Finish

Hop over to the pivot sheet (just to the left)
where you'd find the desired results

You can simply select and move the col headers, eg: Cold, Hot, etc
left or right to rearrange the col order to taste
