Autocomplete works only when the names is a contiguous list in the same
column as where you are typing.
I suggested the combobox for that reason.
If it is too impractical, I'm out of ideas.

Dear Mr. Dibben,
Thank you for your message.
I looked at the link that you sent me, and I don't think this will fill my
need.
I have a list of over 300 names. I don't think a combo box is practical.
My desire is to be able to autocomplete the names as I start entering them
in my Excel worksheet.
I am not terribly adept at this...I may indeed be doing something wrong, but
I don't think this will work for me.
Any ideas?
Thank you for your patience.
Sincerely,

A ComboBox comes to mind.
See Debra Dalgleish's site for how to use a CB in conjunction with Data
Validation list.

I have a long list of names and associated data contained in one worksheet.
On another worksheet, I have created a form that loads the pertinent data
associated with each name. I only use a few names from that long list at a
time.
My question: On the worksheet that contains my form, I want to auto
complete the cell containing the person's name.
For example: my "names" worksheet contains the names "Smith", "Jones" and
"Brown".
When I am working with the worksheet that contains my form, as I start to
type in "Smith", I want the cell to auto complete the name in the cell from
the list of names in my "names" worksheet.
Any ideas would be helpful. Thank you!
