Default Unable to query ASC and JIS function

Hi David,

Thank you so much for replying to me.

I managed to find the solution.

Once I changed the default language from English to Japanese for MS Office
2K3, both ASC and JIS worked fine by typing directly or searching in
Insert/Function.

I'm supporting the company based in Japan. Client PC environment a
OS : Windows XP SP2 English
MS Office : 2003 SP3
MS Office Language Settings : Default - Japanese / Enabled languages -
English(U.S.) & Japanese
Regional and Language Options : Japanese & Japan

It appears setting the default language as English for MS Office does not
work for ASC and JIS. Under the above environment, both functions work.

Thank you so much for your attention.

BTW, I assume your default language is English both for OS and MS Office. I
didn't get any result when typing ASC or JIS directly in the cell but you
did. Very interesting....

Have you tried using the function, even though you can't see it with Insert/
Function ?
On my machine, Insert/ Function doesn't show ASC or JIS, but both are shown
in Excel help. Interestingly, using ASC as shown in the help example works,
but using JIS similarly as shown in the example gives a #NAME! error.
Strange.

Hi all,

I have a question. One user found out he couldn't use ASC and JIS
function.
As I checked, ASC and JIS cann't be used on some client PCs. If I query
them
(InsertFunction...Type ASC or JIS in search field), no results are
returned.

I uninstalled the whole of MS Office once and reinstalled it again but the
problem still persists.

I appreciate if anybody reply to me.

Thanks in advance,
