=SUM(COUNTIF(A1:A5,{"*abcd*abcf*","*abcf*abcd*"}) )
....

Maybe in this particular case, but if these cells could contain values
like "abcde,abcFOOBAR" your formula would include them in the count
when they shouldn't be.
