Excel Alt Return
Nothing happens. There is no flash of light. No figures appear anywhere on
the spreadsheet and nothing disappears. Nothing happens.

You've said what doesn't happen, but you haven't said what *does* happen.
Do you get a square symbol where you wanted your new line?
Do you have "wrap text" enabled or disabled in Format/ Cells/ Alignment?
If you type ABC[Alt-Enter]DEF in cell A2, what result do you get from the
formula =CODE(MID(A2,4,1)) ?

When I type text into a cell and want to execute a return carriage to
create
another line below the line I have typed, (are you following this?) I hit
Alt/Enter(Return) to start that fresh line, but it does not happen.
What do I expect? I expect a new line below the line of text.
I have done this on my work computers which have Office 2003 and no
problem.

What do you mean by "This does not work"? What did you try, what result
did
you get, and what result did you expect?

This does not work in either 2003 on my desktop or 2007 in my notebook.
Can
anyone help?
