Default Enter doesn't return to the cell below the starting point anymore

Jeff,

I had a similar problem recently. Worksheet protected with only select unlocked cells
allowed. XL 2003. In my case, using the arrow keys made it go nuts, jumping around and
sometimes locking up Excel. So did the Enter key. If I allowed selection of locked cells,
no failure. I was able to confirm this behavior on an XL2000 machine, and Jim Cone confirmed
it on XL 2002 and 2003. Nothing in the knowledge base about it, but if there was, it'd
probably be the usual "don't do that" answer.

This just started happening yesterday...

My documents are protected as "Select unlocked cells", which is how I've
always protected my documents. By the way, I'm using Excel 2003.

Anyway, when I hit enter after tabbing through cells it doesn't return to
the cell below the staring point anymore. I tried this again in old workbooks
and blank workbooks but it's the same problem.

The only way it will work when protected is if I have "select locked cells"
checked (which I don't like but can live with).

I already checked in ToolsOptionsEdit "Move selection after Enter" is
checked, Direction: my options a Down, Right, Up, or Left; "Down" is
selected.

I also looked at ToolsOptionsTransition to make sure "Transition
navigation keys" is unchecked.

What else could be the problem?

Thank you,
Jeff
