Well, at this point there's not much more I can do unless you want to send
me a copy of the file or a sample file that shows me what you'e trying to
do. If you can/want to do that I'm at:
xl can help at comcast period net
Remove "can" and change the obvious.
If you do send me a file let me know in this thread. I don't always check
that mail account.

Does this make more sense now?
Well, not really. Maybe a fresh set of eyes will see what I'm not
seeing.

=SUMIF(BL23:CY23,'ITR Summary'!A2,C23:M23) returned a zero value
Does this make more sense now?
1st spreadsheet
a1: ITR Summary
a2: =today()
2nd spreadsheet
Last Name Category1 Category2 Category3 3/12/08
3/13/08
3/14/08

Ok, we're making progress!
=SUMIF('ITR Summary'!A2,(C23:M23))
I assume C23:M23 are the values you want to sum.
'ITR Summary'!A2 =TODAY()
Now, where are the dates that correspond to C23:M23?
I'll assume they're in C22:M22
=SUMIF(C22:M22,'ITR Summary'!A2,C23:M23)

*smiles sheepishly*
2nd worksheet: =SUMIF('ITR Summary'!A2,(C23:M23)) this returned
a
value
of
zero
1st worksheet: ITR SummaryA2 is actually =today()
I need to calculate the amount of hours worked per project, per
day

You need to provide some details! Like:
Where is the data you want to sum?
What is its relationship to a particuler date(s)?
Where is the date(s)?
