When I replied earlier to the OP, I should have said that I wouldn't
recommend the dd:hh:mm format, as it could readily be confused with
[hh]:mm:ss, so perhaps something like dd hh:mm would be better, but if the
OP particularly wants dd:hh:mm I don't see why it doesn't work for him (or
apparently for you).

Exactly what are you trying to accomplish? If you enter the American
style date (mm/dd/yy) and a time, such as 2/9/2008 6:01:05 pm, you will
get dd:00:00 (9:00:00) with your formatting. Are you trying to get:
9:06:01??
