Default missing tabs in Excel 2003

Chesslover17

Some times this happens to me. There should be two X's in the upper right
corner of the screen, one red for excel and one black for the worksheet. Use
these controls and make sure the worksheet is "maximized" in the window of
excel.

My mother-in-law is using Excel 2003 and the tabs are missing at the bottom
of one of her spreadsheets.

I had her click on 'Tools \ Options \ View' and she says the boxes next to
'horizontal Scroll Bar' and 'Sheet Tabs' both are checked, but neither the
horizontal scroll bar nor the tabs appear. The entire line where these
typically would appear is missing. Can anyone help her, please ? (N.b., the
vertical tab bar is showing.)

I don't know if this is related, but, if she holds down the up or down
arrow, the box that indicated which cell is active disappears above or below
the horizon instead of scrolling the spreadsheet to keep that box visible.
Any help fixing that would be appreciated as well.

Thank you.
