Default Opening Excel 2003 file in Excel 2007: Links do not work

Jim,

Thank you for your article and reply. On the Windows Vista machine I used,
there were two similar options when adding this value: "DWORD (32-bit)
Value" and QWORD (64-bit) Value"; in my haste to apply the fix, I read the
latter as "DWORD (64-bit) Value". Thank you for the correction!

Glad it worked but:

The DWORD is a 32-bit, not 64-bit, value.

There's nothing in the linked article that said a DWORD is 64 bit. A DWORD
(Double Word, a Word being 16 bit) is by definition 32 bit.

| That did it! There were a couple of differences from the linked article:
|
| . The office version is 12.0.
|
| . The DWORD is a 32-bit, not 64-bit, value.
|
| Other than that, it worked exactly as you said. Thank you!!!

| I have an Excel 2003-format spreadsheet that I have opened in Excel
2007.
| The spreadsheet has links to another (external) 2003-format
spreadsheet which
| I do not have.
|
| In Excel 2003, when I open the file I am given a dialog box to choose
| whether or not to update the links. If I choose to NOT update, then
the
| values as of the last time the link was updated are displayed.
|
| In Excel 2007, opening the same spreadsheet does not give a dialog box
| asking if I want to update the links. Instead, the spreadsheet opens
with
| all the linked cells (and those depending on the linked cells)
displaying
| #VALUE!, NA, or #NAME?
|
| How can I open the spreadsheet in 2007 and have it display the last
values
| of the links?
