Data Sheet - select the range A1:A12 - on menu - Insert | Name | Define -
type the name and ADD

Main Sheet - Seletc the cell where you want the drop down C7 as sample - on
menu - Data | Validation | select list and on the box "refers to" type =name.

on cell d7 use =vlookup(c7,DataSheet!a1:b12,2,0)
