How about if you open both workbooks in one instance of excel?

Going from Excel to Word to Excel does seem to work. Why? It adds an extra
step that I'd like to avoid if possible, but if this is the only way, that's
what I'll do. Sigh.

I once have a similar problem, this might sound like a stupid suggestion,
but try copying and pasting into word first, then copy from word and paste
into excel. Also try PPT if that doesn't work. This once solve a similar
issue I once had.

I am using Microsoft Office Excel 2003 with SP2 (part of Microsoft Office
Professional Edition 2003).
