Default what did I do to get autodate?

CTRL and semicolon will get you the date (date-stamped, so it doesn't
change - unlike the function TODAY).

Incidentally, CTRL-SHIFT-semicolon will give you a time-stamp.

Hope this helps.

I am confused. I had my left hand somewhere around ctrl/shft and right near
enter and hit some combination that auto-entered the date at the end of the
text of the cell ABOVE the one on which I believe I hit this combination.

Any idea what I could have hit to get this to happen? Curious, as I may
want to repeat the functionality/shortcut.
