The following value is in A1: 31.65 x 8800

I then reference A1 in cell B1, except I only wish to reference the
value 'as far as' the first blank i.e. B1 above would equal 31.65.

As A1 can be 1; 2; or 3 digits and 2 decimals, I'm not sure how to do
this
