Default complex formula?

Have a look in Excel help at the VLOOKUP function.

Hi
This is my problem that I really would appreciate an answer to.

Im having a worksheet containing a number of columns and rows. Each row
contains specific data about a customer. The customers can have the same
data
type (i.e a, b, c etc) in a column x.
What I want to do is to create a formula that looks up all rows that has
the
data type in column x and then execute a formula based on the data type a,
b,
c...

So if it founds an a in column x it should get it values from the actual
row( three or more cells) and then get some constants from another
worksheet.
Compute them and show the result in another cell in that particular row.

But if it finds the data type b, it should get some other constants.

Does it make sense?

I really hope someone could give me some help here.
Thx in adv.
