Default Automatic indexing of numbers

Thank you for the prompt reply. However, when I do as you suggest, the
number increases by one for each cell as I drag down to a lower cell and
decreases by one for each cell as I drag to a upper cell. I just want the
number to stay the same without increasing or decreasing.

Simply left click on the fill handle (little black square in lower right
corner) of the selected cell, where the cursor changes from a fat white
cross to a skinny black cross, and drag wherever.

In Excel 2003, how do I turn off the feature which increases or decreases

the
value of a number by one as you drag from one cell to another. I just

want
to copy the same number from one cell to another by drag and drop.
