Default Linking to ranges in another file

I have a project containing similar excel files for each year. In each file
I refer to a range in the file for previous year like
='C:\Data\ekonomi\tili2006.xls'!lastsaldo
I have entered this without path, but excel inserts it automatically.

I have recently moved the whole project to another directory. Now when I
open a file, Excel asks for the location pointing itself to the old
directory.

If I enter the value manually, the file opens without problems, but with the
link not.

It appears thet Excel has originally stored the links in a hidden area I can
not reach. Although I change the link it won't recognize it.
What can be done? How should I link to another file, and still being allowed
to move the file to another directory. In this case all the files in the
project are stored into the same directory, but what happens if the linked
files are in another directory or even on another server!

Excel version is 97
