I tried =text(a2,"yyyymm") and I'm getting
01/07/07 as the date of what i orginally have.

Insert a new worksheet

Then select your range (A1:C###)
Data|filter|advanced filter
Check Unique records only
(and filter in place)

Then copy the visible cells to the new worksheet.

If that first column is a real date, you may want to add another field:
=text(a2,"yyyymm")
or
=text(a2,"mmm")
to make sure all the days within a month are treated the same.
