Hi Michele-

This can probably be done using VBA, which I cannot offer any assistance
with. Delayed response from some of the VBA gurus suggest that it may not be
a simple task, anyway.

Have you tried the Windows "Search" feature? That might be the easiest way.

Click the Start button on the task bar, go to Search, and choose For File or
Folders. Specific wording may be different depending on your version of
Windows, but there will be some sort of option for Documents, then Advanced
Search. Use the option that refers to file content for the individual's name.
Just make sure to target the specific folder containing your files, as
content searches can take quite a long time.

Another direction you might want to consider is using Excel's Save Workspace
feature. It may take some time to set up the necessary workspaces, but could
work for you. Check it out in Excel Help.

i have a folder with 23 workbooks, in each one there are anywhere for 1 to 50
pages, each page is a persons name and itemized expenses with a running
total, the name will appear in several of the workbooks, i also have a
workbook that you can look at to see each name and how much they have in each
of the different books without having to open one of the 23 books. what i
need to do is make a hyperlink or somthing else if there is a better way, to
click on a name and it will open more that one workbook if the name appears
in more than one. is this possible.
