Default Japanese Yen problem

In .com,
am spake thusly:

I have read many messages that say I should hold the Alt key and type
0165 on the keypad to enter the Japanese yen sign. My experience is
that when I do that I get a small dot (indicating that the font
doesn't include this character?) I understand that Tahoma does
include it and when I select Tahoma in MS-Word, the yen sign does, in
fact, appear, but in Excel nothing seems to get it to appear. I
selected Tahoma as the default font in options and selected Tahoma as
the font of the page in question. Nothing seems to work. Any ideas?

Works for me, even in the default Arial. What xl version are you
using, and is it patched? I have XP SP 3 fully patched (including
the patch from this last Tuesday).

It's also findable via Insert / Symbol in the Latin-1 set for me.
