If hiding/unhiding isn't working, try Window-Unfreeze Panes.
Sometimes that's the problem.

Did you do the Format|column|unhide stuff?

Maybe the column is not hidden, maybe you froze panes with that off the screen.

Window|Unfreeze panes.
