Sounds like are in Paste mode if you have a box of "marching ants" which is the
"marquee" in real terms.

Hit enter to paste.

The little symbols are found under InsertSymbols.

Fractions are found in many font types so you may have to scroll through the
font list.

MS Reference 2 has lots of fractions.
