can't insert a column, can't shift columns off the sheet.
Your problem is still the same, Excel inserts a column for you when you
insert a column, but to do this all the columns to the right have to move
over one. Because you have some information in the last column to the right
(IV) then Excel cannot insert a column for you. the answer to your problem is
to move the information you have in column IV to a column further to the left
such as BB etc and then you have freed up a space for Excel to insert a
column.

I need to keep all the columns. I tried moving the formula over one column
in af from z:ae to aa:af. Then I added that formula to every used cell in
the columnaf.
It still wouldn't let me add a new AF column so I could do the average in
AE. Now what do I do.

Apparently you have "something" on the right of the sheet that prevents the
insertion of new columns. If you are sure that there is no need to keep the
actuals column AG-IV, simply select all of them and delete them. This may
remove the "object" and allow you to insert new columns wherever you want.
