Default JIS / ASC Functions in Excel 2007

Can't say I use either function, but ASC is in XL2002, but JIS returns
"#NAME?"

Help on JIS says:
"The name of the function (and the characters that it converts) depends upon
your language settings."

Wheter that means the function may actually be called something else, I'm
not sure ??

The functions really are missing in both Office 2007 and Office 2003 in

the
English versions, even though Japanese fonts and support are installed.
Working for a Japanese company, use of these functions would be quite
helpful...

They are there, according to:

Don't have that version installed, so can't confirm.

If they really are missing, you could write your own function based on
StrConv.

I have several text strings in single-byte Japanese I need to convert

to
double-byte Japanese. The JIS and ASC functions in Excel are listed in

Excel
Help, but they are not available in Excel 2007. Attempted use

generates a
NAME? error. I am running English Vista, and I have Japanese fonts

installed
in both Vista and Office 2007. How do I get the JIS & ASC functions

to
load
/ install / work?
