There are instructions here for adding the Generate GetPivotData button
to a toolbar, and toggling the feature on and off:

GETPIVOTDATA
You create the pivot table and then are ready to use the data through normal
linking to the cell contents. In current versions of Excel, when you click
on a cell within pivot table, you get GETPIVOTDATA function. This works for
first cell, but once you want to do normal copy/paste/drag of values from
the pivot table, you are stuck because GETPIVOTDATA never updates (always
tied back to original GETPIVOTDATA function and particular cell reference).
The only way I know to address it is to manually type in cell address itself
rather than clicking on the cell. Then you can copy/paste/drag like normal.
I used to work heavily with Pivot Tables and never experienced this problem.
Any suggestions on getting around GETPIVOTDATA are appreciated.
