Default date format only showing month year

Works OK for me (Excel 2003). If I type 5 may, it appears in the formula bar
as 05/05/2007 and in the cell as 05-may. So not sure why it is not working
for you.

Thanks Toppers - -but when I type in 5 may it still automatically selects the
date may-1-05 ... when I was hoping it would say may-5-07 ... and I'm not
typing the quotes in here -- should have mentioned that! :)

Assuming cell is formatted as mmm-dd-yyyy type '5 may' (no quotes).

When I type into a cell it autmatically reverts to a month/year format
instead of month/day. for instance, if I type in "may 5" it will change the
date to May-01-2005. How can I get it to automatically select May-05-2007?
