Function bar
It's no longer available.

Thanks for both your suggestions Dave & FSt1 however it's not the solution I
was looking for.
I may customize my toolbar and add the "=" but the grey box that appears
right below the formula bar is nowhere to be found. I don't know what you
call that box but it shows the result of the equation you have typed in the
formula bar. With this box, I can make changes in my equation in the formula
bar (like getting the %) and see the result in that box without affecting or
actually "embedding" that equation in the spreadsheet's cell.
Do you or anyone know how I can make that box appear or is that no longer
available in the 2003 Excel? Thanks for all your help.

There is an equal sign icon that you can add to your favorite toolbar.
Tools|Customize|Commands tab|Insert Category
(a little more than half way down the commands list.)
It's not quite the same, but it may be sufficient for you.

In older versions of Excel the symbol on the left side of the function bar
used to be an "=". Whenever you type a formula in the formula box, a grey box
appears below it showing what the sum would be based on the formula you just
typed in it. In the 2003 version the "=" symbol has been changed with "fx"
where it gives you more option but the box that shows the resulting sum is no
longer there. Is there anybody out there who can tell me how we can show that
box in the 2003 version? Thanks.
