I'd put it a little differently. If the workbook was last saved in an
older
version of Excel then Excel will automatically calc the workbook when it
is
opened (and therefore prompt to save it even if there are no other
changes).
Also, if the workbook uses any volatile functions, like OFFSET, Excel will
always calc them and prompt to save.
