Default Excel file opens with a colon followed by a number in the ExcelTitle Bar

I just activate the window I don't want and hit ctrl-w.

Then remember to save--like Gord recommended.

Two windows open when the file opens. One is listed as :1 and the other
as :2

How can this be corrected?

Thanks.

It sounds like your file has two windows open. Look at the Windows menu and
see whether that shows two windows on the file? If you want to close one
window, click on the smaller x just below the large red X at the top
right-hand corner.

When I open a particular file in Excel 2002 or 2003, the file name
appears as filename:2 when it is opened in Excel. Is this something
that needs to be corrected? What does the :2 mean after the file name?
In Windows Explorer, the :2 does not appear in the filename. Any
assistance is appreciated. Thanks.
