Default Date formating

Try selecting the cell and right-clicking then going to 'Format Cell'.

Once there, head to the 'Number' tab and select 'Date'.

From there, you will see 3 boxes on the right side of that dialog box;

Sample, Type, and Locale.

Select the locale 'English (United Kingdom)', that will only effect the
cells that you have selected and not the rest of the sheet when you put
a date in there.
