Default AUTO COMPLETE NUMBERS

Data|Validation doesn't offer autocomplete, but it would allow choosing from a
dropdown.

Tell you'r department head to use a prefix of A while entering the data. Then
when the data entry is finished, it's just:

Select the range
edit|replace
what: A
with: (leave blank)
replace all

If you use an apostrophe, then this technique won't work.

Could you not use data validation to do this ? ... assuming that there are
only a few numbers involved of course. :) Sounds like it's job codes or
something similar. If you can list em, you could get em into a drop down box
and just pick the right one.
